Noite Branca

I started seeing the signs for Noite Branca about a week ago. I proudly translated the text to mean White Night (Thanks Practice Portugal app!), but had no idea what it meant until I checked with my advisor.

Concerts! Art! Culture! All things I love! And how fun would it be to wander the city at night? I came home and told Lisa we were definitely going. [Narrator: Prepare for a plot twist.]

The city was crowded all weekend, even during the day. White, gauzy banners lined the streets. Venders sold food and drinks, and street performers were everywhere. I enjoyed a gelato cone on a walk home, and ran into a beautiful, blue lady who blew me a kiss as I walked by.

I think these banners light up at night.
Gelato on a hot day.
The blue lady.
Street art.

I came home and looked at pictures from the first night’s festivities on Instagram. I saw cool light shows, wall-to-wall people in the city center, on a hot night….

So how was it?? I can’t say, as the Ogan-DeLongs are over 50, and when it’s too hot and we’re too tired, we stay home! (New country, same me, remember?) What did we miss? Here are some pics we shamelessly stole from the official Instagram account.

Light show in the city center.
So. Many. People.

I did take some of my own pictures of Noite Branca. Please enjoy these images of the clean up efforts I saw on my walk, Monday morning! 😆

The street cleaners were out in full force!
The fountain had quite the makeover!
Packing up the beer taps!
Looks like a good time!

I hope you all are having a fun week on your own terms! 🍦
